People often talk about how they deal with having anxiety, but how do kids handle it?
Here are some signs to look out for.
Anxiety in children is pretty common, according to Katelyn Gilbert, a physician assistant at St. Luke’s behavioral clinic.
Children will often complain of having a headache or an upset stomach and may not want to go to school.
Gilbert also said that it’s extremely important for parents to talk to their children to let them know that it’s OK to talk about their feelings, and that a lot of people struggle with anxiety.
“It is something that people don’t talk about a lot. So I think definitely talking to your child about their anxiety, validating their feelings, and then you know, normalizing it,” Gilbert stated.
Gilbert also explained that allowing your child to stay home from school if they are feeling anxious can do more harm than good, as it can actually make their anxiety worse.
