Interview questions for a Physician Assistant

To get the core information you need about the candidates you interview.

Here’s a simple, but incredibly effective, interview technique.

Ask these same seven questions in each job interview:

1. “What was the single most appealing aspect of the job ad for you, that compelled you to apply?”
This tells you what’s most important to the candidate – this tells what really motivates them.

2. “If you can imagine you could hand carve your ideal position, what would that look like?”
This answer will tell you if your position is a close match for them.  If their answer isn’t close to your position, maybe it isn’t a good fit.

3. “Since no job is perfect, if you had to change 1-2 things about your current position, what would they be?”
Are they complaining about things that they will have to do in your job?

4. “What is your greatest accomplishment in your life?  Or what are you most proud of?”
What have they had to preserve through in their life?

5. “Do you have any questions for me?”
Ask this constantly.  If they don’t have questions, they don’t have intellectual curiosity.  Not a good sign.

6. “Walk me through your career progressions.  Why do you leave your past positions?”
You don’t want them to leave you for the exact reasons they left other companies.

7. “Where have you experienced failure in your career? Walk me through a time…”
How did they deal with adversity? This is an indicator of things to come.
